Calling All Playwrights: Come Develop Your Next Work With Us
Chicago Writers’ Bloc welcomes playwrights with at least one completed script that has been presented in a staged reading, workshop, or production at an existing theater.
Why Join?
Chicago Writers’ Bloc is a unique, collaborative environment where playwrights receive meaningful feedback, gain visibility for their work, and connect with a network of artists and theater professionals. Members are encouraged to present excerpts from their developing plays during our monthly meetings and additional reading nights.
How to Join

- Attend a Meeting
- We’ll invite you to one of our monthly Zoom meetings, held on the second Monday of each month from 7:00–9:00 PM Central Time.
- Submit Your Work
- If you’re interested in becoming a member after attending, we’ll ask you to send:
- A list of your past productions, workshops, or staged readings -OR- a draft of at least one completed script you’d like to develop.
- If you’re interested in becoming a member after attending, we’ll ask you to send:
- Join the Bloc
- Upon review, you may be invited to join our organization. Membership is $50/year and gives you full access to:
- Our monthly Zoom sessions
- Eligibility to participate in our annual short play festivals
- Entry into our semi-annual staged reading festivals
